Description
Henri Richard Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 is a beautifully poised expression of top-tier Burgundy, offering depth, complexity, and remarkable elegance in one of the Côte de Nuits’ most revered sites. Crafted from Pinot Noir and produced organically by a small family estate with roots dating back to 1938, it reflects both Grand Cru pedigree and a deeply respectful approach to nature.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the classic allure of fine Burgundy: lifted, refined, and unmistakably seductive. The nose is perfumed and floral, with red cherries, crushed strawberries, and a subtle hint of vanilla, all wrapped in a fresh, elegant aromatic profile.
On the palate, the wine is exceptionally pure and well balanced, with fine tannins supporting layers of blueberry, red plum, and a delicate spicy finish. It has the structure and concentration to age gracefully for many years, gaining further nuance and complexity over time.
Production
This Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin in Bourgogne, where Henri Richard works organically and biodynamically with a strong commitment to preserving the land. The wines are made using traditional methods, including maceration and natural fermentation in open 4,000-liter concrete vats, followed by 12 to 18 months of ageing in 228-liter Burgundy barrels. Movement between tanks and barrels is done entirely by gravity, and the wine is clarified and stabilized naturally without filtration.
Food & Serving
This is a wine that deserves refined food pairings such as roasted duck, pigeon, game birds, veal, or dishes with mushrooms and earthy sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1 to 2 hours if drinking young to help it раскрыve its full aromatic depth and texture.
Producer
Domaine Henri Richard is a small, family-owned estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, founded in 1938 and now run by the fourth generation, Sarah Bastien-Berthier and Richard Bastien. Known for its low yields, meticulous farming, and artisanal winemaking, the domaine has built a strong reputation for producing complex, fresh, and fruit-driven wines with excellent balance and serious ageing potential. Its organic and biodynamic certification underlines a long-standing commitment to quality and sustainability.
