Description

Château Haut-Bailly is one of the great names of Pessac-Léognan, known for producing wines of finesse, balance, and quiet power. The 2011 Cru Classé de Graves comes from a historic estate with a long reputation for elegance, offering a classic Bordeaux expression from one of the most respected properties in the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2011 vintage typically shows a deep ruby color with subtle garnet tones beginning to appear at the rim. The nose is likely to be refined and complex, with notes of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco, graphite, and a touch of earth and spice. On the palate, expect a polished, medium-bodied wine with supple tannins, bright acidity, and a graceful structure rather than sheer power. The finish is usually long and savory, with layers that continue to unfold with time. While already approachable, it should still hold well for several more years under proper cellaring.

Production
Haut-Bailly is located in the gravel-rich terroir of Pessac-Léognan, where well-drained soils help the vines ripen evenly and retain freshness in the wine. The estate is known for careful vineyard management and precise cellar work, with harvesting typically done by hand and each parcel vinified separately to preserve character and balance.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile Bordeaux that pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison, mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and, if possible, decant for 1–2 hours to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.

Producer
Château Haut-Bailly has a distinguished history dating back centuries and is regarded as one of the benchmark estates of Graves and Pessac-Léognan. Classified as Cru Classé de Graves, the château is admired for its consistency, elegance, and its ability to produce wines that combine classical Bordeaux character with remarkable refinement.
