Crafted from low yields and matured with care, it delivers impressive richness and concentration while keeping its 16% alcohol beautifully in check. This is a wine that reflects both the heritage of old-vine California Zinfandel and Hartford’s reputation for polished, site-driven wines.

Tasting Notes
Deep and dark in the glass, this Zinfandel opens with generous aromas of fresh blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry, black currant, spice, and a subtle leather note. The bouquet is vivid and layered, showing both ripe fruit intensity and savory depth. On the palate, it’s plush and full-bodied, with blackberries leading the way alongside mocha, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The finish brings in hints of licorice and freshly ground pepper, adding lift and complexity. Powerful yet balanced, it’s drinking beautifully now and should continue to evolve well over the next 5 years.

Production
The wine is built from grapes grown in the Russian River Valley, sourced from five separate vineyard sites planted with very old vines, many over a century in age. These low-yielding vineyards contribute concentration and depth, while the region’s cool climate helps preserve freshness and structure. Winemaker Jeff Stewart aged the wine for 16 months in French oak barrels, with just under half being new, and bottled it without clarification or filtration to retain maximum character.

This Zinfandel is a natural match for grilled and roasted meats, barbecue, beef ribs, lamb, rich pasta dishes, and mature hard cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.
