Gutzler Riesling Auslese Edelsüss 2019

Gutzler Riesling Auslese Edelsüss 2019 is a beautifully rare sweet wine from one of Rheinhessen’s most respected estates, known primarily for precise dry reds and whites. This limited Auslese shows the estate’s softer, more indulgent side, combining concentrated ripeness with the bright, chalky acidity that makes great Riesling so compelling. The result is a dessert wine with both richness and finesse, rooted in the limestone-rich vineyards around Westhofen.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a luminous, almost oily texture with a deep golden hue. The nose opens with ripe peach, dried apricot, honey, mango and a touch of orange peel, giving it an inviting, layered aromatic profile. On the palate, the sweetness is generous and fully expressive, but it is beautifully balanced by crisp acidity and a lively citrus drive. Flavors of yellow currant and lemon juice add freshness and precision, while the wine’s concentrated fruit and structure suggest it can age gracefully for several years, developing even more complexity over time.

Production
The grapes come from very limestone-rich vineyards near Westhofen in Rheinhessen, where the soils help preserve freshness and deliver a mineral backbone. Harvested very late to achieve higher natural sugar levels, the fruit is selected for optimal ripeness before gentle vinification that preserves the purity of Riesling’s fruit and acidity.

Food & Serving
This wine is excellent served on its own after a substantial meal, when its sweetness and acidity can really shine. It also pairs wonderfully with blue cheese and other stronger, lightly salty cheeses. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C; decanting is not usually necessary, though a brief aeration can help open the aromas if desired.
