Description
Gutzler Blauer Arbst trocken Historische Rebsorten 2022 is a rare and characterful wine made from one of the great historic grape varieties of central Europe. Once an important part of classic red blends, Blauer Arbst has been rediscovered for its heritage, finesse, and distinctive personality. The result is a wine that combines tradition, elegance, and a strong sense of place.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a refined, vibrant profile with delicate fruit and a polished, graceful structure. The nose is marked by sweet cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, lifted by a subtle spicy note that adds complexity and charm.
On the palate, juicy cherry fruit leads the way, followed by wild berries and elegant spice on the finish. Fresh acidity and silky tannins keep everything beautifully balanced, while the wine’s depth and finesse suggest excellent development over the next few years.
Production
The grapes are hand-harvested with careful selection and handled very gently, without pumps, to preserve purity and detail. After destemming, the wine undergoes a traditional 12-day skin fermentation, then is gently pressed at low pressure and matured for 16 months in second-use barriques on the lees. Minimal sulfur is added before bottling, allowing the wine’s historical character and vineyard expression to remain front and center.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs especially well with roast poultry, duck, veal, mushroom dishes, and herb-roasted vegetables, as well as lighter game and charcuterie. Serve it slightly chilled, around 14–16°C, to highlight its freshness and aromatic precision. Decanting is not essential, but a short decant can help open up the wine’s aromatic complexity.
