Gulfi Nerobaronj 2020

Gulfi Nerobaronj 2020 is an organic Nero d’Avola from Pachino in southeastern Sicily, made to showcase the grape’s character and the distinctive terroir of Val di Noto. This prestigious cru combines concentrated fruit with careful oak ageing, offering an expressive, structured take on one of Sicily’s best-known varieties.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a ruby-red colour with violet highlights. Aromas of red fruit mingle with vanilla, while the palate is harmonious and structured, with ripe fruit, soft tannins and a long, persistent finish. Its time in barrel and bottle has helped integrate the wine’s fruit and structure. It can be enjoyed now, or cellared for a few years for further development.

Production
The Nero d’Avola comes from vineyards near Pachino in Val di Noto, around 50 metres above sea level, where calcareous and clay-rich soils favour aromatic concentration. The vines are organically farmed using the traditional bush-vine system, with high planting density and low yields. After harvest, a long maceration extracts colour and structure; following malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in small barrels for around 24 months, then spends at least one to two years ageing in bottle.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. Its ripe fruit and supple tannins suit grilled or roasted red meats, lamb, rich tomato-based dishes and aged cheeses. Decant for about 30 minutes before serving to let the aromas open; older bottles may need less aeration.

Nerobaronj was conceived as a prestigious cru from the historic vineyards of Pachino, reflecting the vision of Vito Catania and winemaker Salvo Foti. The winery’s organic farming and low-yield approach help preserve the identity of this celebrated corner of Val di Noto.
