Description

Guado al Tasso Il Bruciato 2024 is a modern Super Tuscan red that delivers serious pedigree with a generous, approachable style. Sourced from the prestigious Bolgheri estate of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, this wine showcases the coastal elegance of Tuscany through an artful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It was conceived as a more immediately enjoyable expression of the estate’s terroir, yet it retains the depth and character that have made Bolgheri one of Italy’s most exciting regions.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Il Bruciato 2024 typically shows a deep, vibrant ruby colour with violet highlights, reflecting both its youth and concentration. The nose is inviting and layered: ripe blackcurrant, black cherry and plum are lifted by notes of wild Mediterranean herbs, sweet spice, cocoa and a touch of graphite and cedar from careful oak aging. On the palate, expect a supple, medium to full-bodied wine with polished tannins and a fresh, coastal-influenced acidity that keeps everything beautifully in balance. Dark berry fruit and ripe cherry are supported by hints of black pepper, tobacco leaf, mocha and a subtle savoury edge from the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The finish is long, fruity and finely textured, making it both immediately pleasurable and structured enough to reward short- to mid-term cellaring. While delicious in its youth within a year or two of release, Il Bruciato generally develops added complexity over 5–8 years in bottle, gaining softer tannins and more tertiary notes of leather, spice and dried herbs.

Production
Il Bruciato is crafted from vineyards within the Tenuta Guado al Tasso estate in Bolgheri, just a few kilometres from the Tuscan coast. The area benefits from a unique amphitheatre-like setting of gently rolling hills, with well-draining alluvial soils rich in sand, clay and gravel that are ideal for Bordeaux varieties and Syrah. The maritime climate, with warm days, cooling sea breezes and marked day-night temperature shifts, helps the grapes achieve full ripeness while preserving fragrance and freshness. Grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, often by hand, allowing for strict selection. In the cellar, the varieties are vinified separately in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve aromatics and fruit purity, followed by malolactic fermentation and maturation—often in a combination of French oak barriques and larger vessels. The final blend is assembled to balance structure, aromatic complexity and drinkability, resulting in a polished yet authentic expression of Bolgheri.

Food & Serving
Il Bruciato 2024 is a versatile food wine that pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, Tuscan-style beef tagliata, lamb chops, ragù-based pastas and rich dishes like pappardelle with wild boar. It also works well with aged pecorino, hard cheeses and charcuterie, as well as wood-fired pizzas topped with sausage or mushrooms. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F). Young vintages benefit from a brief decant of 30–45 minutes to allow the aromatics to open and the tannins to soften, though the wine is already crafted to be accessible shortly after release.

Producer
Tenuta Guado al Tasso is one of the flagship estates of Marchesi Antinori, a family whose winemaking roots in Tuscany stretch back over six centuries. Located in the Bolgheri DOC on the Tuscan coast, the estate has been instrumental in establishing the region as a premier source of world-class, Bordeaux-inspired blends. With extensive vineyards planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot, Guado al Tasso has become synonymous with polished, Mediterranean-inflected reds. Il Bruciato was introduced as a more approachable counterpart to the estate’s iconic Guado al Tasso, yet it has earned its own strong reputation among wine lovers and critics for offering exceptional quality and a true sense of place at a more accessible level.
