Description
Gruaud Larose 2022 is a classic Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most respected Second Growth estates, offering the structure, depth and refinement collectors look for in a fine Left Bank wine. Produced in a vintage that has already drawn attention for its balance and precision, it reflects the estate’s long-standing reputation for producing age-worthy, terroir-driven Cabernet Sauvignon blends.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is expected to show a deep ruby core with bright youthful highlights. The nose typically leans toward blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite and subtle floral notes, with hints of tobacco, spice and savory earth as it opens.
On the palate, Gruaud Larose is usually firm, layered and classically styled, with ripe dark fruit framed by fine tannins and fresh acidity. The finish tends to be long and mineral, with the kind of structure that suggests excellent aging potential over the next 15–25 years, depending on storage.
Production
Sourced from the gravelly soils of Saint-Julien, the estate benefits from an exceptional Left Bank terroir that favors Cabernet Sauvignon ripeness while preserving freshness and elegance. Grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal maturity, then vinified with a focus on gentle extraction and careful élevage in oak to build complexity without overpowering the wine’s natural balance.
Food & Serving
This is a superb match for prime rib, lamb, venison, duck breast, and richly flavored mushroom dishes. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young, allowing the wine to fully open and soften its tannins.
Producer
Gruaud Larose is one of Saint-Julien’s historic estates, classified as a 2ème Grand Cru Classé in 1855 and known for producing wines of consistency, structure and longevity. Often admired for its traditional Bordeaux style and strong identity, the château has long held a respected place among Left Bank collectors and fine-wine enthusiasts.
