Description

Château Gruaud Larose 2014 is a classic Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most respected Second Growth estates, offering the structure, depth, and refinement collectors look for in a Left Bank wine. Known for its traditional style and long cellar pedigree, it reflects the enduring prestige of the 1855 Classification while remaining approachable in a strong vintage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby-garnet hue with youthful intensity at the core. The nose is expected to open with dark berries, cassis, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and a touch of earthy spice, all signatures of a fine Cabernet-led Saint-Julien. On the palate, it is usually medium to full-bodied, with firm but polished tannins, fresh acidity, and a layered core of blackcurrant, plum, cigar box, and subtle oak spice. The finish should be long and composed, with the structure to develop beautifully over time. While already showing charm, this is a wine with excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve gracefully for years in cellar.

Production
Gruaud Larose comes from gravelly soils in Saint-Julien, where excellent drainage helps produce ripe, structured fruit with natural balance. The estate traditionally farms and harvests with a focus on precision and quality, and the vinification is carried out to preserve the purity of the fruit, the classic Cabernet Sauvignon character, and the layered complexity that defines the château’s style.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs especially well with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, and dishes with earthy accompaniments such as mushrooms or truffle sauce. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully.
