Description
Graci Etna Rosso 2024 is a vivid expression of Etna’s volcanic slopes, made entirely from Nerello Mascalese grown high above sea level in the northeastern zone of the volcano. It captures the elegance, mineral tension, and aromatic character that have made Etna one of Italy’s most exciting red wine regions, with roots in Sicily’s ancient Greek viticultural heritage.
Tasting Notes
Expect a bright, refined red with a lively, transparent color typical of Nerello Mascalese. The nose is delicate yet distinctive, with layered aromas shaped by volcanic soils—red berries, wild herbs, spice, and a smoky mineral edge.
On the palate, the wine is poised and finely textured, with fresh acidity, subtle tannins, and a clean, savory finish. Its structure suggests good short- to medium-term aging potential, allowing the mineral and aromatic profile to gain even more complexity over time.
Production
The grapes come from old vineyards in Passopisciaro on the northeastern slopes of Mount Etna, between 600 and 1000 meters above sea level. The volcanic soils are brown, sandy, and clay-rich, with neutral pH and high levels of iron and nitrogen, while the altitude and dramatic day-night temperature shifts help preserve freshness and support slow, even ripening. Harvest typically takes place from the last week of September into the first week of October, followed by fermentation and 18 months of aging in cement tanks, then a further 2 months of bottle refinement.
Food & Serving
This Etna Rosso pairs beautifully with roast poultry, grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, aged pecorino, and Sicilian-inspired cuisine. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 16–18°C, to highlight its freshness and aromatic lift. Decanting is optional, but a short rest in a decanter can help open the wine if enjoyed young.
Producer
Graci is one of the key names in modern Etna winemaking, known for championing indigenous varieties and for its sensitive, terroir-driven approach. The estate has helped reinforce Etna’s reputation as a world-class volcanic wine region, with a focus on purity, precision, and vineyard expression. Its wines have earned strong recognition for showcasing the distinctive character of Etna with clarity and finesse.
