Gomez Cruzado, Rioja Pancrudo

Gomez Cruzado Pancrudo is a terroir-driven Garnacha from the high-altitude vineyards of Badarán in Rioja’s Upper Najerilla, where old bush vines bring remarkable finesse and depth. Crafted with precision and a clear sense of place, it combines the freshness of a cool northern exposure with the structure and mineral edge that make this site so distinctive.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Pancrudo shows an elegant, nuanced profile with a bright ruby-red color and a graceful, lifted character. The nose opens with red berries, subtle spice, and a hint of stony minerality, while the palate is fresh and energetic, balancing juicy fruit with fine structure, texture, and a long, precise finish. The 2021 vintage adds clarity and concentration, giving the wine both vibrancy and depth. It should drink beautifully now, but its balance and structure suggest it can also develop well over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from old bush vines grown at around 650 meters in Badarán, on iron-rich clay soils with a north-facing exposure that helps preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The fruit is harvested by hand and carefully sorted before being vinified traditionally, with fermentation in stainless steel and gentle extraction to protect purity and lift. Malolactic fermentation is split between new French oak barrels and egg-shaped concrete tanks, adding complexity while maintaining energy and definition. This careful approach allows the character of the vineyard to remain at the center of the wine.

Food & Serving
Pancrudo is a versatile food wine that pairs especially well with roasted poultry, grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, herb-driven Mediterranean cooking, and medium-aged cheeses. Serve it slightly cool, around 15-17°C, to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. Decanting for 30-60 minutes can help open the wine and soften its youthful edges.
