Description
Château Giscours 2020 is a classic Margaux Third Growth that combines the elegance expected from this prestigious appellation with the depth and structure of a serious Left Bank wine. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, it captures both refinement and power in a vintage widely admired for its balance and precision.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby colour with an inviting sheen. The nose is likely to open with blackcurrant, dark cherry, violet and cedar, layered with graphite, tobacco and subtle spice from the Cabernet-led blend.
On the palate, Giscours 2020 should feel poised and concentrated, with polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, harmonious finish. The Merlot brings roundness and supple fruit, while Petit Verdot contributes colour, spice and grip. This is a wine with strong aging potential and should develop beautifully over the next 10–20 years, gaining complexity and tertiary notes of leather, earth and dried flowers.
Production
Giscours is sourced from the gravelly soils of Margaux, where excellent drainage and the moderating influence of the Gironde help Cabernet Sauvignon reach full ripeness while preserving freshness. The grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel to capture optimal maturity, with careful selection in both vineyard and cellar. Vinification generally emphasizes gentle extraction and élevage in oak barrels to build structure, depth and aromatic finesse.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds and mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours when young to allow the wine to open and soften.
Producer
Château Giscours is one of Margaux’s most respected historic estates and was classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Over the years, it has earned a strong reputation for producing wines that express the elegance, perfume and balance that define the Left Bank. Today, Giscours remains a benchmark name in Margaux, admired for both tradition and consistency.
