Château Giscours 3ème Grand Cru Classé Margaux 2016 is a refined expression of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated appellations. The vintage combines the elegance and aromatic lift associated with Margaux with the structure of a classic Cabernet-led blend, and benefits from the château’s status as a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour with a youthful garnet hue, this Margaux opens with expressive aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, followed by violets, cedar, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate, it is polished and well balanced, offering ripe dark fruit, fine-grained tannins and a fresh, mineral character.
The wine has the concentration and structure to develop beautifully in bottle, while its refined fruit and supple texture make it approachable with careful decanting today. With proper cellaring, it should continue to evolve over the next 15–20 years, depending on storage conditions and personal preference.
Production
The vineyards of Château Giscours lie on the gravelly soils typical of the Margaux appellation, where excellent drainage and the region’s maritime climate favour the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot brings together structure, plush fruit, aromatic complexity and spice. Grapes are harvested parcel by parcel at optimum ripeness, followed by careful fermentation and maturation in oak to integrate the wine’s tannins and develop its layered character.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison and other richly flavoured red meats, it also pairs well with duck, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C. Decant for approximately 1–2 hours before serving to soften the tannins and allow the wine’s floral, fruit and savoury notes to unfold.
Producer
Château Giscours is a historic Margaux estate whose origins reach back several centuries and whose vineyards form part of the prestigious Médoc classification established in 1855. As a Third Growth, the château is recognised for producing elegant, age-worthy wines that combine Margaux’s characteristic finesse with the depth and structure of gravel-soil Cabernet Sauvignon. Its wines are valued for their balance, aromatic complexity and ability to mature gracefully.
