Description
Girolamo Russo’s Etna Bianco Nerina 2024 is a compelling white from the slopes of Mount Etna, crafted to highlight the volcanic character of Sicily’s most distinctive terroir. A blend of Carricante, Catarratto Bianco Comune, Grecanico Dorato, Grechetto, and Coda di Volpe, it balances freshness, texture, and an unmistakable sense of place, with the added depth that comes from bottle aging.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, luminous straw-yellow color, often with a subtle golden glint that hints at its richness. The bouquet is expressive and layered, with citrus peel, white flowers, orchard fruit, and a mineral edge, followed by more evolved tertiary nuances as it ages.
On the palate, the wine moves gracefully between soft, rounded textures and vibrant freshness, creating a dynamic and highly drinkable profile. It is precise yet generous, with a salty, volcanic finish and enough structure to suggest very good aging potential.
Production
This wine comes from the volcanic vineyards of Etna, where altitude, cool night temperatures, and mineral-rich soils help preserve freshness while adding tension and complexity. The blend of native Sicilian and Italian white varieties is harvested with care to capture optimal ripeness and acidity, then vinified to emphasize purity of fruit, terroir expression, and a texture that can evolve beautifully over time.
Food & Serving
Ideal with grilled fish, shellfish, seafood pasta, risotto with herbs, and light vegetable dishes, this wine also works well with Mediterranean starters and soft, fresh cheeses. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help the wine open up if served young.
Producer
Girolamo Russo is a respected Etna producer known for wines that capture the volcanic energy and elegance of the region. The estate has earned recognition for its focus on native varieties, careful vineyard work, and a style that combines precision, minerality, and aging potential, making it one of the notable names in modern Sicilian wine.
