Description
Giodo Brunello di Montalcino 2021 is a refined expression of Sangiovese from one of Tuscany’s most prestigious appellations. Known for its precision, elegance, and depth, it showcases the purity of Montalcino terroir while reflecting the exacting style of its producer.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby color with youthful brightness. The nose is inviting and layered, with notes of ripe cherry, red berry fruit, violets, dried herbs, and subtle spice, often supported by earthy and savory undertones.
On the palate, expect a poised and structured Brunello with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, persistent finish. The fruit profile leans toward red cherry, pomegranate, and cranberry, balanced by nuances of tobacco, leather, and mineral complexity. While approachable with proper cellaring, this wine has excellent aging potential and should develop beautifully over the next decade or more.
Production
Made from Sangiovese grown in the Montalcino area of Tuscany, the wine reflects the region’s combination of altitude, warm Mediterranean sunlight, and well-draining soils that help preserve freshness and aromatic precision. Harvesting is typically carried out by hand to select only the best fruit, and vinification is focused on preserving varietal character, balance, and structure before maturation in oak to add complexity without overpowering the wine’s elegance.
Food & Serving
This Brunello pairs beautifully with rich Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-braised lamb, game, and porcini mushroom risotto. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the wine to fully open.
Producer
Giodo is the Brunello project of renowned winemaker Carlo Ferrini, one of Italy’s most respected wine consultants. Based in Montalcino, the estate has earned a reputation for producing polished, terroir-driven wines that combine authenticity with remarkable finesse, quickly establishing itself among the region’s most admired modern producers.
