Description

Giacomo Fenocchio’s Barolo Villero 2022 comes from one of Castiglione Falletto’s celebrated crus, offering a distinctive expression of Nebbiolo shaped by its hillside vineyard. Made in a traditional style, it combines floral and earthy complexity with the structure and depth to reward careful cellaring.

Tasting Notes
Deep garnet in colour with ruby reflections, it opens with an inviting bouquet of flowers, plum, spice and forest-floor notes. The palate is dry, warm and harmonious, with enveloping, sweet-edged tannins and a notably persistent finish.

Production
The Villero vineyard lies around 300 metres above sea level in Castiglione Falletto, with a south-western exposure and soils rich in clay, limestone and iron-bearing sediments. The grapes are harvested in the first half of October and ferment naturally with indigenous yeasts, followed by around 40 days of maceration in stainless steel. After six months in steel, the wine matures for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks before further bottle ageing. Its structure and Nebbiolo character suggest potential for extended cellaring.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with roasted or braised meats, game and aged cheeses. Decanting for about an hour before serving can help the wine open up, particularly when young.
