In the glass, the 2020 Cerretta shows a deep, vibrant garnet core with luminous ruby reflections typical of great Nebbiolo. The nose is layered and complex, opening with dark cherry, black plum and macerated berries, followed by notes of rusted iron, rose petals, blood orange marmalade and hints of licorice, tar and sweet spices. A subtle mineral edge and dried herbal nuances add further intrigue as it unfolds in the glass. Production
Cerretta is one of Serralunga d’Alba’s most prized crus, with calcareous-clay and marl soils that naturally yield Barolo of depth, structure and minerality. Giacomo Conterno works these vineyards with meticulous attention and low yields, harvesting Nebbiolo by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy bunches are selected. Vinification is traditional and uncompromising: long macerations on the skins and extended aging in large, neutral Slavonian oak botti allow the terroir of Cerretta and the character of the vintage to emerge without adornment. Bottling in magnum further slows the wine’s evolution, preserving freshness and detail over decades.
