Description
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles 2013 is a finely etched Burgundy that combines perfume, precision, and quiet depth. From a cool, late season in 2013, this magnum shows the graceful, site-driven style that has made Barthod one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most respected names, with a historic village identity rooted in elegance rather than power.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vivid ruby-red color. The nose is lifted and inviting, with aromas of cherry, red currant, violets, spice, and a subtle earthy note of forest floor.
The palate is defined by purity of fruit, bright acidity, and a refined structure. Fine-grained tannins give the wine a silky texture and a long, persistent finish. It is already attractive for its freshness and balance, yet the magnum format and harmonious structure suggest excellent aging potential over the coming years.
Production
Les Véroilles is a Premier Cru site in Chambolle-Musigny, where cool Burgundian conditions and well-situated terroir help produce Pinot Noir of notable finesse and aromatic complexity. The 2013 growing season was marked by a cooler, later-ripening cycle, leading to a later harvest and wines with impressive freshness. Vinification followed the disciplined, terroir-focused approach associated with Domaine Ghislaine Barthod, allowing the wine’s clarity, structure, and delicate fruit expression to come through.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its elegance, such as roast quail, duck breast, mushroom risotto, veal, or poultry with subtle herb sauces. Serve at around 16–17°C, and decant gently if drinking young; a short decant of 30–60 minutes can help the aromas open, while mature bottles may only need a careful splash decant.
Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is a benchmark producer in Chambolle-Musigny, known for wines that capture the village’s signature refinement and aromatic precision. Built on a tradition of meticulous vineyard work and restrained winemaking, the domaine has earned a strong reputation among Burgundy collectors and enthusiasts for producing consistently elegant, long-lived Premier Cru wines with a clear sense of place.
