Description

Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 2009 is a beautifully poised Burgundy that captures the finesse and precision this village is celebrated for. Made from 100% Pinot Noir in one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most respected vineyards, it combines ripe fruit, mineral definition, and classic Burgundian elegance in a vintage known for generosity and structure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a graceful ruby color with the kind of translucence typical of fine Pinot Noir. The nose opens with ripe cherry and raspberry, lifted by floral accents and a subtle spice note, all underscored by a cool, limestone-driven minerality. On the palate, the wine is silky yet structured, with concentrated red fruit, refined tannins, and impressive balance. The 2009 vintage brings extra richness and depth, while the Les Cras terroir adds a long, mineral finish. It can be enjoyed now, but it has the balance and concentration to develop further over the next 10–15 years.

Production
The grapes come from Les Cras, a Premier Cru site in Chambolle-Musigny known for its limestone-rich soils, which help give the wine its elegant texture and mineral complexity. The fruit is harvested by hand and carefully selected, then vinified in a traditional way with native yeasts to preserve the character of the vineyard. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, adding depth, structure, and subtle spice without overpowering the wine’s delicate fruit.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for dishes that complement Pinot Noir’s finesse, such as roast duck, guinea fowl, game birds, veal, or mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs beautifully with soft-ripened cheeses and truffle-scented cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if drinking young to allow the aromas to open fully; if well matured, a shorter decant or careful pouring is usually enough.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the standout names in Chambolle-Musigny, widely respected for producing wines of purity, precision, and site expression. The domaine has built its reputation on meticulous vineyard work and a restrained winemaking style that highlights the elegance of its Premier Cru holdings. Today, it is considered among the benchmark producers of the village and a reference point for lovers of fine Burgundy.
