Description
Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru 2013 is a beautifully poised Pinot Noir from one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most admired premier cru sites. Sourced from the limestone-rich Les Charmes vineyard in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, it combines refinement, precision, and the silky elegance that has made Chambolle-Musigny so coveted among collectors.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a clear, bright ruby color with the translucent depth typical of fine Burgundy. The nose is expressive and layered, offering red cherry, raspberry, and redcurrant, lifted by floral notes of rose petals and violets, with a discreet touch of spice and mineral nuance.
The palate is fresh and finely structured, with lively acidity, polished tannins, and a supple, almost satin-like texture. The mineral character of Les Charmes gives the wine focus and length, while the cool 2013 vintage adds energy and aromatic detail. It is enjoyable now for its finesse and fragrance, but it should continue to develop gracefully over the next 10–15 years, gaining further complexity and depth.
Production
Les Charmes is a premier cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, planted on limestone-dominant soils that naturally favor elegance and aromatic purity in Pinot Noir. The 2013 growing season was cool and wet, making careful vineyard work essential to achieve full ripeness and balance. The grapes were hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented using traditional methods with natural fermentation, before maturation in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak to add subtle structure and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that complement its finesse, such as roast duck, pigeon, veal, game birds, mushroom risotto, or earthy truffle-based cuisine. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 15–17°C, to best highlight its fragrance and freshness. Decanting is optional for a young bottle, but a brief decant of 30–60 minutes can help open the aromas.
