Description

Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru 2012 is a beautifully poised Burgundy from one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most admired premier cru vineyards. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, it combines the village’s hallmark elegance with the depth and precision that have made Ghislaine Barthod a reference point in the region.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep ruby colour in the glass, with the kind of clarity and brightness that signals finely handled Pinot Noir. On the nose, expect layered aromas of ripe cherry, strawberry, rose petals, and gentle spice, with a subtle mineral edge that reflects the Les Charmes terroir. The palate is refined and beautifully structured, with silky tannins, fresh acidity, and a core of concentrated red fruit. There is real finesse here, but also enough depth to carry the wine through further ageing; while it is already enjoyable, it should gain additional complexity and nuance over the next 10-15 years.

Production
Les Charmes is one of Chambolle-Musigny’s prized premier cru vineyards, known for its limestone-rich soils and excellent exposure, which are particularly well suited to Pinot Noir. The grapes for this wine were hand-harvested, then gently pressed and allowed to ferment naturally before being matured in French oak barrels, including a significant proportion of new oak, to add texture and subtle spice without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast duck, quail, mushroom dishes, veal, or refined preparations of game bird, as well as earthy vegetarian plates such as wild mushroom risotto. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for about 30-60 minutes if opening young, to allow the aromatics and texture to fully unfold.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the most respected estates in Chambolle-Musigny, long admired for producing wines of exceptional purity, precision, and site expression. Under Ghislaine Barthod’s direction, the domaine has earned a reputation for classically styled Burgundy that highlights terroir over technique, with wines that are consistently among the most sought-after in the village.
