Description
Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru 2011 is a beautifully poised Burgundy that captures the grace and refinement for which Chambolle-Musigny is celebrated. Sourced from the esteemed Les Charmes vineyard, it combines delicate Pinot Noir fruit with striking mineral nuance and the quiet authority of a top-tier Premier Cru. The 2011 vintage adds a cooler, fresher expression that gives the wine excellent balance and real cellar-worthy appeal.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the translucent ruby hue typical of fine Pinot Noir from Burgundy. The bouquet is elegant and layered, offering red cherry, redcurrant, violets, forest floor, and a subtle spice note that unfolds with air.
The palate is finely structured and polished, with lively acidity, silky tannins, and a mineral line that runs through the wine from start to finish. The fruit is precise rather than bold, giving a graceful, transparent style that can already be enjoyed, though it should continue to gain depth and complexity over the next 10–15 years.
Production
Les Charmes lies in Chambolle-Musigny, where limestone-rich soils help shape wines with finesse, aromatic lift, and distinctive mineral tension. The grapes were hand-harvested and sorted, then vinified in a traditional style with natural fermentation to preserve the purity of the fruit and the character of the site.
Following fermentation, the wine was matured in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, adding subtle structure and complexity without overpowering the vineyard expression. The result is a wine that speaks clearly of both terroir and careful craftsmanship.
Food & Serving
This Premier Cru pairs beautifully with dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, mushroom risotto, veal, game birds, or simply a well-prepared chicken dish with earthy accompaniments. Serve it at 15–17°C for the best balance of fragrance and structure. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if drinking now, especially to let the aromas open fully.
