Description

Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru 2013 is a refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most admired Pinot Noir sites. From a cool, demanding vintage, it combines fragrance, precision and classic Chambolle-Musigny elegance with the depth and structure that make premier cru Burgundy so compelling.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby hue with graceful translucency, hinting at its finesse rather than power. The nose is perfumed and layered, offering red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, lifted by violet, spice and a subtle earthy-mineral note. The palate is silky and finely drawn, with vibrant acidity, polished tannins and a long, delicate finish. The Aux Beaux Bruns terroir brings a mineral edge and quiet complexity, while the 2013 vintage adds freshness and balance. It can be enjoyed now for its youthful charm, but will continue to gain nuance over the next 8–10 years.

Production
This wine comes from the Aux Beaux Bruns premier cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, where deep clay and limestone soils help shape wines of perfume, finesse and precision. The 2013 growing season in Burgundy was cool and challenging, requiring careful vineyard work and selective harvesting to bring in fruit at optimal quality. Made from 100% hand-harvested Pinot Noir, the wine underwent traditional vinification with natural fermentation before aging in French oak barrels. This élevage adds structure and complexity without overshadowing the vineyard’s delicate character.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast duck, quail, guinea fowl, mushroom risotto or dishes featuring earthy root vegetables and truffles. It also pairs beautifully with soft, creamy cheeses. Serve slightly cool at around 15–16°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening it young, though a gentle pour is enough if the bottle has had time in the cellar.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the benchmark estates in Chambolle-Musigny, long admired for its pure, terroir-driven wines and understated style. The domaine has built a strong reputation for precision, consistency and an exceptional ability to capture the silky, perfumed character of the village. Its premier cru bottlings are especially sought after among Burgundy lovers for their depth, balance and aging potential.
