Description
Georges Laval Cumières 1er Cru Brut Nature Bio LB23 is a vivid, terroir-driven Champagne from one of the region’s most respected small growers. Made in tiny quantities and bottled without dosage, it offers a pure, finely etched expression of Cumières, with the added appeal of certified organic farming and a long-standing artisanal approach.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne typically shows a bright, pale golden hue with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is precise and elegant, often opening with citrus zest, green apple, white flowers, and subtle brioche or chalky notes, while the palate is firm, dry, and energetic, with crystalline fruit, mineral tension, and a clean, saline finish.
The Brut Nature style keeps the profile especially focused and transparent, allowing the blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier to show in a taut, layered way. It is a Champagne built on freshness and detail rather than richness, and it should age gracefully for several years, gaining breadth and complexity while preserving its brightness.
Production
Georges Laval works from Cumières in the Vallée de la Marne, where the vineyards benefit from a mix of chalk, clay, and limestone soils that help bring both drive and texture to the wine. The fruit is organically farmed and harvested by hand, then vinified with a light touch to preserve purity and site expression. As a Brut Nature, the wine is bottled without added dosage, resulting in a dry, unadorned style that places the focus squarely on the vineyard.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is excellent as an aperitif, but it also pairs beautifully with oysters, sashimi, shellfish, grilled white fish, and refined dishes with cream or citrus elements. Serve chilled, ideally around 8-10°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short rest in the glass can help the aromas open up.
Producer
Georges Laval is a highly regarded grower-producer in Champagne, known for meticulous organic viticulture and small-scale, handcrafted wines. The estate has earned a strong reputation among Champagne enthusiasts for its authenticity, precision, and commitment to expressing Cumières with clarity. Its wines are often sought after for their artisanal character and limited availability.
