Description
Gaja Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn 2000 is one of Piedmont’s most iconic Nebbiolo wines, showing the precision, depth, and finesse that have made Gaja a benchmark producer in Barbaresco. Sourced from one of the region’s most esteemed parcels, it combines power and elegance in a style that has helped define modern fine wine in Italy.
Tasting Notes
After more than two decades of aging, the 2000 vintage shows remarkable harmony and complexity. The bouquet is layered with dried roses, ripe cherry, dark berries, tar, leather, and warm spice, gradually unfolding into notes of tobacco, cedar, and forest floor with air.
On the palate, it is both powerful and silky, with mature Nebbiolo fruit, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and striking mineral drive. Flavors of red and black berries, licorice, spice, and earthy undertones lead to a long, persistent finish. This is a wine with excellent aging pedigree, though it is now in a beautifully mature drinking window.
Production
Sorì Tildìn comes from one of Barbaresco’s finest vineyard sites, where the terroir is prized for producing wines with exceptional balance, depth, and aromatic complexity. Gaja is known for meticulous vineyard work and careful selection, with vinification designed to preserve the site’s character while building structure and longevity into the wine.
Food & Serving
This wine is best served with classic Piedmontese dishes such as braised beef, truffle risotto, game birds, mushrooms, or aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended, especially if opening now, to allow the wine’s aromatic layers and mature tannins to fully open.
Producer
Founded in 1859, Gaja has become one of Italy’s most celebrated wine estates and a driving force in elevating Barbaresco onto the world stage. Under Angelo Gaja, the estate gained international acclaim for its groundbreaking approach to quality and its iconic single-vineyard wines, which remain among the most sought-after expressions of Nebbiolo today.
