Franz Haas Pinot Bianco Lepus 2025 is a poised Alto Adige white that pairs Pinot Bianco’s natural freshness with a notably structured, rounded finish. Made from hillside vineyards around Montagna, it reflects the region’s alpine character and the long-standing winemaking tradition of the Franz Haas estate, founded in 1880.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw-yellow in the glass, it opens with aromas of ripe apple and pear, wildflowers and citrus, alongside subtle hints of bread crust and spice. The palate is fresh and well structured, with harmonious acidity, an elegant texture and a long, enveloping finish.
A short period of bottle rest is recommended before opening. The wine is described as having good potential to develop further over time, though a specific drinking window is not provided.
Production
The grapes come from south- and southwest-facing slopes near Montagna, at elevations of 400–800 metres. The vineyards’ soils range from light sand to porphyry-derived ground, contributing to the wine’s structure and depth while helping preserve aromatic freshness. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless-steel tanks; a portion of the must is matured in small oak barrels for added complexity. The wine then rests on its lees for around five months, balancing freshness with a fuller texture.
Food & Serving
Enjoy with fish dishes, cheese, Asian-inspired food or spiced curry. Serve lightly chilled, around 8–10°C, to bring out its freshness and aromatic detail. Decanting is generally unnecessary; allow the wine to breathe briefly in the glass, or give it a short rest after opening.
Producer
Founded in 1880, Franz Haas is a historic estate in Alto Adige, where its hillside vineyards express the region’s distinctive alpine setting. Pinot Bianco Lepus is presented as a clear expression of the estate’s focus on varietal character and local terroir. The supplied information names oenologist Stefano Tiefenthaler as guiding the winery’s approach.
