Description
Pascal Champagne QuinteEssence Extra Brut 2010 is a refined, terroir-driven Champagne that brings together Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay in a beautifully balanced, low-dosage style. Crafted by biodynamic grower-producer Franck Pascal, this cuvée showcases the purity and precision of top-quality grapes from the Champagne region. The 2010 vintage adds an extra layer of character and maturity, making this a bottle that will appeal to serious Champagne enthusiasts and collectors alike.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, QuinteEssence 2010 presents a luminous, pale gold hue with fine, persistent bubbles that form a delicate mousse. The nose is complex and evolving, opening with notes of citrus zest, ripe pear and crisp apple, followed by hints of brioche, toasted nuts, chalky minerality and subtle floral tones.
On the palate, this Extra Brut is taut and precise yet creamy, with a vibrant acidity that frames flavors of lemon curd, white peach, orchard fruits and lightly roasted hazelnut. Layers of pastry, wet stone and a saline finish emphasize its origin in high-quality Champagne terroir. The low dosage keeps the wine dry and focused, allowing its natural depth and minerality to shine. While beautifully drinkable now, the structure and complexity suggest very good aging potential over the next 5–8 years, during which it will gain further nuance and tertiary notes.
Production
Franck Pascal works his vineyards in the Champagne region of France according to strict biodynamic principles, emphasizing living soils and low yields to express the character of each parcel. The blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay is sourced from carefully tended plots on chalk and limestone-rich soils, which contribute both finesse and minerality. Grapes are usually harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, then gently pressed to preserve delicacy and purity. Fermentation often takes place with minimal intervention, using natural yeasts where possible, and the base wines are aged on fine lees before secondary fermentation in bottle. Extended aging on the lees before disgorgement adds texture, complexity and a fine, persistent mousse, while the Extra Brut dosage keeps the wine dry and terroir-driven.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is an excellent match for refined dishes such as oysters, scallop crudo, sushi and sashimi, or delicate white fish with citrus and herb sauces. It also pairs beautifully with creamy cheeses, poultry in light cream sauces, and can elevate simple bites like blinis with smoked salmon or caviar. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and precision. A brief decanting in a chilled carafe, or simply allowing the wine to open in the glass for 10–15 minutes, can help reveal additional aromatic layers, especially given the wine’s vintage character.
