Château Figeac 2020 is one of Saint-Émilion’s most distinctive and prestigious wines, celebrated for its unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc alongside Merlot. As a 1er Grand Cru Classé, it offers a refined, terroir-driven expression of Bordeaux with remarkable freshness, precision, and aging potential.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Figeac 2020 shows a deep, elegant color with a bright, polished core. The nose is complex and lifted, offering blackcurrant, red cherry, cedar, violet, graphite, and subtle hints of tobacco and spice.
The palate is structured yet beautifully poised, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and layers of dark berry fruit, savory herbs, and mineral detail. It finishes long and energetic, with the balance and concentration to develop gracefully over decades.
Production
Figeac is located on the western edge of Saint-Émilion, where gravelly soils, clay, and sand create an exceptional terroir that particularly suits Cabernet varieties. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand, with meticulous parcel selection to preserve freshness and precision. Vinification is typically carried out with great attention to detail to emphasize purity, structure, and the individual character of each plot.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, and dishes featuring mushrooms or truffles. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully.
Producer
Château Figeac is one of the historic names of Saint-Émilion, with a long-standing reputation for producing wines of elegance, complexity, and exceptional longevity. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé, it is widely respected for its distinctive style and for standing apart from many Right Bank estates through its Cabernet-led blend. Over time, Figeac has earned a place among Bordeaux’s most admired and collectable wines.
