Description
Château Figeac 2009 is a standout Saint-Émilion for collectors and serious Bordeaux lovers, combining elegance, freshness, and remarkable depth. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé, it reflects one of the appellation’s most distinctive estates, long admired for its refined style and individuality within Bordeaux.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Figeac 2009 typically shows a deep garnet color with a polished, vibrant edge. The nose is layered and expressive, offering blackcurrant, plum, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle floral and spice notes.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with impressive structure and poise, balancing ripe dark fruit with mineral drive, fine tannins, and a long, nuanced finish. The 2009 vintage has the concentration and harmony to age beautifully, and this wine should continue to develop complexity for many years, gaining more secondary notes of leather, truffle, and cigar box with time.
Production
Château Figeac is located on the western edge of Saint-Émilion, where its gravelly soils are unusually influenced by the same type of terroir found in the Médoc. This distinct terroir contributes to the wine’s freshness, aromatic lift, and firm backbone. Harvesting is typically carried out by hand, with careful parcel selection to preserve the character of each vineyard block, followed by traditional vinification with precision and attention to extraction and aging.
Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, truffle dishes, and mature hard cheeses. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if opening now, especially to allow the wine to fully open and show its aromatic complexity.
Producer
Château Figeac is one of the most historic estates in Saint-Émilion, with roots dating back centuries and a reputation for producing wines of exceptional finesse and longevity. It is widely regarded as one of the region’s benchmark properties and was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé status for its quality and consistency. Over time, Figeac has earned a loyal following among Bordeaux enthusiasts for its elegant, Cabernet-driven style and impressive aging potential.
