Feudi San Gregorio Irpinia Aglianico Serpico 2017

Serpico is one of Feudi di San Gregorio’s most celebrated expressions of Aglianico, a wine that combines the grape’s natural power with remarkable finesse. Sourced from Irpinia in Campania, it pays tribute to one of southern Italy’s great native varieties and to the region’s long winemaking heritage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red color that hints at its concentration and structure. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with aromas of cherry jam, sweet spices, liquorice, coffee, and cocoa, unfolding beautifully with time in the glass. On the palate, Serpico is balanced and refined, with firm but well-integrated tannins, vivid minerality, and excellent length. It has the depth to age gracefully for many years, allowing its dark fruit and savory notes to become even more complex over time.

Production
Made entirely from 100% Aglianico, the grapes come from Irpinia in Campania, an area known for its volcanic soils and ideal conditions for producing structured, age-worthy reds. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks for around three weeks, preserving purity of fruit and varietal character. The wine is then matured for 18 months in medium-toasted French oak barriques, followed by eight months of bottle aging.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for rich Italian dishes such as braised beef, roasted lamb, game, osso buco, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C and consider decanting for at least an hour to let the wine open up fully and show its aromatic complexity.
