Description

Feudi San Gregorio’s Pietracalda is a poised, structured white wine from Fiano di Avellino, one of Campania’s most respected DOCG appellations. Made entirely from Fiano and shaped by the cool, windy hills of Irpinia, it combines regional history with a distinctly fresh, mineral profile.

Tasting Notes
Pietracalda shows a bright, polished straw-yellow color in the glass, with the kind of clarity and depth that hints at its careful élevage. On the nose, expect layered aromas of white flowers, ripe stone fruit, citrus peel, and a subtle mineral nuance, with lees contact adding a gentle creamy complexity. The palate is structured and persistent, with lively acidity balanced by a round, textured mouthfeel. The clay-rich soils help preserve freshness and give the wine impressive tension, while the extended aging on the lees adds breadth and depth. This is a white wine with excellent development potential, likely to gain even more nuance over the next few years.

Production
The vineyards are located in Sorbo Serpico, in the heart of Irpinia within the Campanian Apennines, where rolling hills, mountain exposure, regular rainfall, and strong winds create a cooler microclimate than much of the surrounding region. The soils are notably rich in clay, sometimes comprising up to 50% of the composition, which helps retain moisture during warmer periods and supports the grape’s natural acidity. Harvest takes place in mid-September, and vinification includes around four to five months of lees aging with repeated bâtonnage to keep the fine lees in suspension and build texture.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent partner for seafood risotto, grilled shellfish, roasted poultry, creamy pasta dishes, and baked white fish, but it also works beautifully with vegetarian plates featuring herbs, mushrooms, or aged cheeses. Serve well chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting for a more expressive aromatic profile if opening young.

Producer
Feudi di San Gregorio is one of Campania’s most influential modern wineries, known for elevating native southern Italian grapes and helping bring international attention to the region’s fine wines. Based in Sorbo Serpico, the estate has built its reputation on quality, careful site expression, and a strong commitment to local varietals such as Fiano, Greco, and Aglianico. Its wines are widely regarded as benchmarks for contemporary Campanian winemaking.
