Description
Ferrero Langhe DOC Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is a vibrant, cool-climate expression of Sauvignon Blanc from the rolling hills of Piemonte. Crafted by Fratelli Ferrero, better known for their characterful Barolo and Barbera, this white showcases the estate’s finesse and focus in a fresher, more aromatic style. It offers a refined alternative to many intensely floral New World Sauvignons, emphasizing purity of fruit, balance and a distinctly Piedmontese elegance.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Langhe Sauvignon Blanc shines a pale straw yellow with subtle green reflections, signaling its youth and freshness. The nose is inviting yet not overblown, with clean notes of citrus—think lemon zest and grapefruit—layered with hints of exotic fruit such as passion fruit and ripe pineapple, and a light herbal lift.
On the palate, the wine is dry, crisp and precise, with a lively acidity that keeps everything beautifully fresh. Citrus and tropical fruit return alongside a touch of white peach and a gentle aromatic herb character, giving complexity without becoming overly perfumed. The texture is surprisingly full and rounded for such a fresh wine, leading into a long, clean and mouthwatering finish. Enjoyed in its youth for maximum vibrancy, it will drink best over the next 1–3 years.
Production
Sourced from vineyards in the Langhe area of Piemonte, this Sauvignon Blanc benefits from a combination of calcareous and clay-limestone soils that contribute both tension and depth to the wine. The region’s marked diurnal temperature swings—warm days and cool nights—help to lock in aromatic intensity while preserving acidity. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to maintain freshness and avoid overripeness, then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to safeguard the delicate aromatics and fruit purity of Sauvignon Blanc, with the wine resting on fine lees for a short period to enhance mouthfeel and balance, and minimal, if any, influence of oak.
Food & Serving
This Sauvignon Blanc is a natural match for light, fresh cuisine: think crisp salads, delicate white fish, ceviche, grilled prawns, or simple dishes of poached chicken or roast poultry with herbs. It also pairs well with mild goat cheeses, vegetable tarts and light pasta dishes with spring vegetables. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C to highlight its brightness and aromatic lift. Decanting is not necessary; simply open the bottle shortly before serving to enjoy its immediate freshness.
Producer
Fratelli Ferrero is a family-run estate in the heart of Piemonte, best known for crafting expressive and traditionally styled Barolo and Barbera. Under the guidance of vintner Renato Ferrero, the winery has built a reputation for concentrated, characterful wines that avoid excessive new oak in favor of authenticity and terroir expression. Aging takes place in a centuries-old, atmospheric cellar, where the wines develop slowly and gracefully. Several of Ferrero’s wines have been recognized at tastings in Denmark, reflecting a special connection to the country that is further strengthened by Renato’s Danish wife, Nina, who welcomes visitors and offers charming holiday apartments on the estate. Today, Fratelli Ferrero stands as a respected producer in the Langhe, bridging traditional craftsmanship with a warm, personal touch.
