Description

Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is a refined Italian sparkling wine from the heart of Lombardy, crafted in the prestigious Franciacorta appellation. Made from Chardonnay and Pinot Nero, it offers an elegant alternative to Champagne with its fine bubbles, vibrant freshness, and unmistakably Italian character. This cuvée captures the precision and purity Franciacorta is known for, making it an excellent choice for both special occasions and relaxed aperitivo moments.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut shows a bright, straw-yellow color with delicate, persistent perlage that forms a fine, continuous mousse. The nose is clean and inviting, with aromas of green apple, pear, citrus zest, and white flowers, layered with subtle notes of brioche, almond, and a gentle mineral touch that reflects its terroir. On the palate, it is dry, crisp, and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity that keeps it refreshing from start to finish. Flavors of orchard fruit, lemon, and a hint of stone fruit are wrapped in a creamy texture from extended lees aging, leading to a long, graceful finish with savory, almost saline nuances. While meant to be enjoyed upon release for its freshness and vibrancy, this Franciacorta Brut can develop added complexity over 3–5 years of careful cellaring.

Production
Ferghettina sources grapes from carefully tended vineyards in the rolling hills of Franciacorta, in Lombardy, where a mix of glacial moraines, limestone, and gravel soils contributes to both structure and minerality in the wines. Chardonnay forms the backbone, bringing finesse and elegance, while Pinot Nero adds depth and subtle structure. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and quality, then gently pressed. The base wines are vinified separately, often in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve freshness, before blending. Secondary fermentation takes place in bottle following the traditional method (Metodo Classico), with an extended period of lees aging to build complexity, fine mousse, and a creamy texture, before disgorgement and dosage to achieve a balanced Brut style.

Food & Serving
This Franciacorta Brut is a versatile partner at the table. It pairs beautifully with oysters, shellfish, sushi and sashimi, as well as delicate fish dishes, vegetable tempura, light pasta with seafood, and soft cheeses such as fresh goat cheese or young pecorino. It also shines as an elegant aperitif alongside simple canapés or prosciutto with melon. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F) to highlight its freshness and fine bubbles. Decanting is not necessary, but pouring it into medium-sized sparkling wine or white wine glasses will allow the delicate aromatics to fully express themselves.

Producer
Ferghettina is a respected family-run estate in Franciacorta, founded in the late 20th century and quickly recognized for its meticulous approach to quality and terroir expression. Situated in Lombardy’s most prestigious sparkling wine region, the winery has become one of the key names helping to elevate Franciacorta onto the international stage as Italy’s answer to top traditional-method sparkling wines. With a strong focus on estate-grown fruit, careful vineyard management, and precise, thoughtful winemaking, Ferghettina has earned acclaim for its distinctive, finely crafted cuvées that showcase both the elegance of Chardonnay and the character of Pinot Nero in this unique corner of northern Italy.
