Description

Feligreno’s 2023 Roter Riesling is a distinctive, organically made orange wine from the Hessische Bergstraße, crafted from a grape variety that remains a regional rarity in Germany. Six weeks of skin contact, extended lees ageing and an unfiltered, unsulphured bottling give it a savoury, structured character far removed from conventional white wine.

Tasting Notes
Skin contact brings depth and grip, while the wine’s natural acidity is softened and balanced by the long maceration. Expect a juicy palate with fine tannins and a savoury, spicy mineral quality shaped by the vineyard’s gabbro soils. Specific aroma details and a recommended ageing window have not been provided.

Production
The Roter Riesling grapes come from Seeheimer Mundklingen, where gabbro—a volcanic rock—contributes structure and mineral character. The wine underwent spontaneous fermentation on the skins for six weeks, then matured for twelve months on fine lees in an old Halbstück barrel. It was bottled without added sulphur and without filtration.

Food & Serving
Its texture and gentle tannic grip make it a natural match for roasted vegetables, earthy mushroom dishes, aged cheeses and richly seasoned poultry. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, and consider opening it in advance or giving it a brief decant to let its savoury character emerge.
