Fattoria Le Terrazze Conero Sassi Neri Riserva 2021 is a prestigious red wine from Marche’s Conero DOCG Riserva appellation, crafted exclusively from Montepulciano grown near the Adriatic coast. Rich, structured and refined, it combines the grape’s natural power with elegant oak ageing and the distinctive character of the Numana terroir. Fattoria Le Terrazze has been producing wine since 1882, making this a longstanding expression of the region’s winemaking heritage.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays an intense ruby-red colour with clear garnet reflections. Its expressive and persistent nose reveals notes of woodland, dried flowers and a delicate touch of vanilla, with the oak adding depth without overwhelming the fruit.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich and supple, supported by enveloping tannins and a well-balanced structure. The finish is persistent and harmonious, with a pleasing combination of ripe fruit, spice and gentle oak. With its concentration and well-integrated tannins, the 2021 vintage should develop further in bottle over the medium to long term—approximately 8–12 years when stored properly.
Production
The Montepulciano grapes come from Fattoria Le Terrazze’s own vineyards in Numana, just one kilometre from the Adriatic coast. The maritime influence encourages slow, balanced ripening, while the Upper Pliocene soils vary between calcareous clay marl and calcareous sandy soils, contributing structure and aromatic precision. After careful selection at optimum ripeness, the grapes ferment in stainless-steel tanks, with an eight- to nine-day maceration for colour and tannin extraction. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in small French oak barrels for 18–24 months, followed by at least six months of bottle ageing.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for roasted, braised or grilled pork, the wine also works beautifully with hearty red-meat dishes, game and mature, generously flavoured cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, particularly when opening the bottle young, to soften the tannins and allow the wine’s aromatic complexity to unfold.
Producer
Founded in 1882, Fattoria Le Terrazze is based in Numana and is closely associated with the development of quality wine in the Conero area. Its vineyards benefit from the proximity of the sea and the distinctive Pliocene soils that define the local terroir. The estate’s Conero DOCG Riserva is made under the guidance of oenologist Federico Curtaz and reflects a committed focus on precision, ageing potential and regional identity. The wine has received recognition including 97 points from Luca Maroni and 5 Grappoli from Bibenda.
