There are no signs of overripeness despite its 14.5% alcohol; instead, the bouquet is pure, high-toned and endlessly inviting. On the palate, this vintage is particularly graceful and racy, thanks to the naturally cooler conditions of 2021. Layers of red fruit—think wild strawberries, cherries and redcurrants—interlace with notes of citrus zest, violet pastille, and subtle savory spice. Espectacle del Montsant comes from a dramatic amphitheater-like vineyard set amid the rugged hills of Montsant in Catalonia, where old-vine Garnacha thrives on poor, rocky soils and steep slopes. The combination of altitude, diurnal temperature swings and a cooler 2021 growing season has yielded a wine of remarkable freshness and definition. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy fruit makes it to the cellar. In keeping with the philosophy of showcasing terroir, vinification is gentle and respectful: careful sorting, fermentation designed to extract fine tannins rather than brute force, and sensitive élevage that polishes the wine without masking its character. The result is a Montsant red that feels both precise and expressive, capturing the essence of its dramatic landscape.

This refined yet intense red shines with dishes that mirror its elegance and aromatic complexity. Within the broader Catalan landscape—long overshadowed by its famous neighbor Priorat—Espectacle has played a pivotal role in demonstrating just how profound and ageworthy Montsant wines can be. With consistently high praise from international critics and very limited production (around 7,500 bottles for this vintage), Espectacle has secured a reputation as one of the region’s benchmark, collectible reds.
