Emidio Pepe Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is a benchmark Italian rosé with real character and depth, made from Montepulciano and rooted in one of Abruzzo’s most respected estates. Crafted in a traditional, hands-on way and known for its vibrant fruit and elegance, it reflects the pioneering spirit that has made Emidio Pepe a reference point for indigenous varieties since 1964.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Cerasuolo shows the vivid, cherry-tinged color that defines the style, inviting you in with an impression of freshness and energy. The nose is expressive and lifted, with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, and floral accents that give it a delicate yet distinctly aromatic profile.
On the palate, it is lively and generous, balancing bright red berry fruit with a soft, silky texture and a refreshing, mouthwatering finish. The traditional foot-treading and fermentation without skins help preserve purity and finesse, while the wine’s structure and balance suggest it will age gracefully for a few years, developing greater complexity over time.
Production
The grapes come from organic vineyards in Abruzzo, where the Mediterranean influence and local soils help shape the wine’s freshness, aromatic lift, and natural intensity. Harvesting is done with care, and the fruit is traditionally foot-trodden before the must is fermented without the skins, a method that captures the essence of Montepulciano while keeping the wine clean, vibrant, and refined.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile rosé that pairs beautifully with antipasti, cured meats, grilled seafood, roasted vegetables, and light pasta dishes. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a brief splash in the glass can help open up its aromas.
Producer
Emidio Pepe is one of Abruzzo’s most iconic producers, widely admired for championing Montepulciano and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo through organic, artisanal winemaking long before it became widely fashionable. Since founding the estate in 1964, Emidio Pepe has built a reputation for authenticity, cellar-worthy wines, and a deep commitment to the native grapes and traditions of the region.
