Elena Walch’s Pinot Nero Ludwig is a serious, refined expression of Pinot Noir from one of the producer’s finest vineyard sites. Combining concentrated red-fruit character with a firm, polished structure and subtle oak spice, it offers both immediate appeal and the potential to develop beautifully with age.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep ruby-red appearance. Its expressive nose is marked by ripe strawberries and layers of preserved cherry, complemented by delicate dried-spice notes from its time in oak. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a dense, focused fruit profile and finely integrated structure. The finish is persistent and generously concentrated, with a gentle spicy complexity. Well stored, this Pinot Nero should continue to evolve for up to eight years from the vintage.

Production
The grapes are sourced from Elena Walch’s finest vineyard site for Pinot Noir. A 48-hour cold maceration precedes fermentation, helping to draw intensity and colour from the grape skins, while fermentation takes place at a low temperature to preserve the wine’s aromatic character. The wine is then matured for 14 months in French oak barrels, one third of which are new.

Food & Serving
Its depth and refined structure make this Pinot Nero a natural match for veal dishes, particularly roasted or gently braised preparations. It also pairs well with poultry, mushroom-based dishes and delicate game. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential for a younger vintage, but 30–45 minutes in a decanter can help the wine’s fruit and oak-spice nuances unfold.
