Description

Edi Keber’s 2022 Collio Merlot is a still red wine that pairs ripe, raspberry-led fruit with the distinctive mineral and saline character of the Collio hills. Made in Cormons from Merlot grown on the region’s ponka soils, it reflects a family winemaking tradition that has included bottling its own wines since 1957.

Tasting Notes
Ruby red in the glass, it offers a fruit-forward nose with clear raspberry notes. The palate is intense and complex, with ripe fruit balanced by an elegant structure and a pronounced mineral, savoury edge. Production
The vines grow in Cormons, in the heart of Collio near the Italian-Slovenian border, where ponka—a friable marl known locally as flysch—naturally limits vine vigour and yields, helping concentrate flavour. The Merlot grapes are harvested at a high degree of ripeness. The wine matures for about a year in small barrels, followed by a further year in bottle, and is bottled unfiltered to preserve its varietal character and the mineral nuances of the marl soils.
