Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 Via Nuova shows a luminous garnet core with brick‑tinged edges, already hinting at Nebbiolo’s noble evolution. The nose is elegant and layered: red cherries, wild strawberries and pomegranate are interwoven with violets, rose petals, licorice, and a distinct balsamic and herbal nuance, alongside hints of tobacco leaf and crushed stone. On the palate, this is a medium‑bodied yet firmly structured Barolo, balancing purity of fruit with savory complexity. Ripe red and purple berries glide over fine‑grained tannins, with notes of anise, orange zest, dried flowers and a gentle spice from well‑judged oak. The herbal/balsamic signature lingers on the finish, giving freshness and lift. Production
Via Nuova is an organic blend from six renowned MGAs: Terlo and Liste in Barolo, Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi in Monforte d’Alba, plus Gabutti and Baudana in Serralunga d’Alba. This patchwork of sites spans different altitudes and exposures, combining the sandstone and marl of Barolo and Monforte with the more compact, iron‑tinged soils of Serralunga to create a wine of both finesse and depth. Grapes are hand‑harvested at optimal ripeness, parcel by parcel, ensuring strict selection in the vineyard and at the winery. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to preserve aromatic clarity, followed by maturation in traditional oak, in line with classic Barolo practice. The result is a meticulously assembled blend that reflects both the individual crus and Chiara Boschis’ precise, artisan approach.

This Barolo’s balance of fruit, tannin and savory complexity makes it a brilliant match for rich, soulful dishes. Think braised veal shank or ossobuco, long‑simmered beef or game stews, truffle risotto, tajarin with ragù, or aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and mature Pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) and allow ample time for aeration—especially in this 5L format. Decant for at least 2–3 hours when young to let the aromatics blossom and the tannins relax; older bottles may need slightly less time but will still benefit from a gentle decant to remove any sediment.
