Dunn Vineyards’ 2018 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a finely tuned, uncompromising expression of the variety, shaped by the cool, long season of the vintage and the estate’s distinctly old-school style. Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark color and a restrained, classic profile rather than overt opulence. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, tobacco, pencil shavings, and graphite rise from the glass, supported by a cool mineral edge that gives the wine lift and definition. The palate is dense yet disciplined, with tightly woven tannins framing concentrated black fruit, black tea, granite, and mocha. Dry, linear, and firmly structured, it finishes with impressive length and freshness. While still youthful, it has the balance and backbone to evolve gracefully for 15–30 years.

Production
The fruit comes from high-elevation parcels in and around Howell Mountain, sourced from both estate vineyards and selected purchased fruit. Dunn focuses on low yields and high intensity, harvesting with quality and structure in mind from a terroir known for its elevation, concentration, and naturally firm tannins. Vinification follows a classic Napa approach, with extended fermentation and up to 32 months of aging in 100% French oak barrels, a small proportion of which are new, allowing the wine to develop slowly without losing its restraint.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet pairs naturally with richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, slow-roasted lamb, beef short ribs, or venison, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve it at 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours, especially in its youth, to let the aromas and structure open fully.

With vineyards on Howell Mountain, the estate helped define a more austere, age-worthy side of Napa Cabernet, standing apart from riper, more polished styles. Today, Dunn is widely recognized for producing some of the region’s most classically structured and cellar-worthy wines.
