DuMOL Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard Moon Mountain 2018

DuMOL’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Montecillo Vineyard is a beautifully aromatic, limited-production Sonoma red that combines old-vine concentration with striking finesse. Sourced from vines planted in 1964 on the rocky slopes of Moon Mountain, it has the depth and structure of a serious Cabernet, with a polished profile that evokes classic Left Bank Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, насыщенный ruby-black color. The nose is layered and expressive, with blue and black fruits at the core—blueberry, cassis, and dark cherry—wrapped in cedar, pencil lead, tobacco, sandalwood, olive, Provençal herbs, and a subtle dusty-stone note. The palate is rich and commanding, delivering waves of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and dark chocolate, along with smoked pine, leather, and tobacco. It is powerful yet composed, with enough freshness and structure to reward cellaring for the next 15–20 years.

Production
Montecillo Vineyard sits high on Sonoma’s Moon Mountain, where old Cabernet vines are rooted deep into red, rocky soils that naturally limit yields and intensify flavor. The fruit comes from vines over 50 years old, planted in 1964, and is carefully vinified by winemaker Andy Smith before aging for 20 months in French oak barrels, 50% of them new, to build texture, complexity, and polish.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Sauvignon is ideal with grilled ribeye, beef tenderloin, lamb chops, braised short ribs, or game meats, as well as hard aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and tannins to open fully.
