DuMOL Cabernet Sauvignon, Meteor 2019

DuMOL’s Meteor Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully poised Napa red that combines impressive intensity with a refined, almost classic balance. Sourced from the cool Coombsville district, it has the depth and structure you expect from great Cabernet, alongside an elegance that recalls top-tier Saint-Julien.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet color that hints at what’s to come. The nose is layered and expressive, with fresh blackberry, cassis, dried spices, pencil lead, tobacco, and a subtle earthy edge. The palate is broad and muscular, delivering dark cherry, blackberry, black currant, cocoa, tobacco, and anise in a concentrated, seamless flow. The finish is long, savory, and highly moreish, with the kind of persistence that invites another sip. While it is already drinking well, this wine has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully for at least another 20 years.

Production
Meteor Vineyard sits in the cool Coombsville area of Napa Valley, where the climate gives Cabernet Sauvignon time to ripen fully while preserving freshness and definition. Winemaker Andy Smith blends fruit from two different parcels within the vineyard to build complexity and character. The wine was matured for 20 months in French oak barrels, 55% of which were new, adding polish, spice, and fine-grained structure without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is a great match for grilled ribeye, roast lamb, venison, or rich dishes with mushrooms and black truffle. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young, especially to let the wine’s aromatics and structure fully unfold.
