Why shop with us?
Donnafugata’s La Fuga is a still Chardonnay from Contessa Entellina, offering a distinctly Mediterranean take on the variety, with fragrant fruit, lively freshness and a lingering mineral finish. First created in 1994, it reflects Gabriella Anca Rallo’s vision for wines that express the character of this Sicilian estate.
Tasting Notes
Pale and inviting, La Fuga opens with aromas of tropical fruit, white peach and citrus, complemented by delicate floral notes. The palate is soft and balanced by pleasant acidity, finishing with a persistent mineral, subtly saline character.
Its freshness and aromatic detail make it especially appealing in its youth. Enjoy it over the next few years to appreciate its fruit and lively Sicilian character.
Production
The Chardonnay grapes grow on Donnafugata’s Contessa Entellina estate in southwestern Sicily, in hillside vineyards at 200–300 metres above sea level. Clay and silt soils rich in limestone, dry breezy summers and marked day-to-night temperature shifts help preserve the grapes’ aromas and contribute to the wine’s mineral, saline profile. Harvest takes place at night or at dawn to protect freshness. The must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by five months on fine lees and at least three months of bottle rest.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C, with grilled or roasted fish, shellfish, fresh cheeses or vegetable dishes featuring herbs and citrus. Its freshness also suits light pasta and risotto. Decanting is not necessary; opening the bottle shortly before serving is sufficient.
Producer
Donnafugata is closely associated with the wines of Sicily, and its Contessa Entellina estate is the home of La Fuga. Created in 1994, the wine expresses Gabriella Anca Rallo’s desire to seek inspiration in nature. Its distinctive label, designed by Stefano Vitale, celebrates Sicilian zest for life and evokes the sun, sea and winding vineyard rows.
