Tasting Notes
In the glass, Dominus Estate 2020 shows a dense, opaque ruby to nearly inky core with a vibrant, youthful rim—everything about its appearance signals concentration and depth. The nose opens in layered waves of blackcurrant and ripe blackberry, followed by notes of cassis liqueur, dark plum and a subtle wild herb character. With air, more complex nuances emerge: graphite, cedar, warm mocha, dark chocolate and a faint hint of tobacco and dried violets. On the palate, this is full-bodied and richly textured, with a luxurious, velvety mouthfeel that coats the palate without feeling heavy. The dark fruit theme continues—think blackcurrant, black cherry and blackberry compote—wrapped in finely grained tannins. Production
Dominus Estate is based in the famed Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, at the heart of Napa Valley, where gravelly, well-drained soils and a warm, dry climate provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines benefit from sunny days, cooling evening breezes and a long growing season that allows grapes to reach optimal ripeness while preserving structure. Harvest is typically carried out by hand, with strict selection both in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only the highest quality berries make it into the final blend. The 2020 Dominus—95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc—is vinified with precision to emphasize purity of fruit and underlying terroir, followed by aging in carefully chosen French oak barrels to integrate tannins, add subtle spice and texture, and support the wine’s long-term development, before being bottled in large-format imperials for extended, slow maturation.
