Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is dense and youthful with a deep purple hue. The nose unfolds with earth, blackcurrants, sweet black cherries, and a subtle thread of incense, while the oak remains beautifully restrained in the background. On the palate, it is full-bodied, layered, and texturally polished, with remarkable fruit purity, freshness, and structure. It already offers plenty of pleasure, but its real charm will emerge over the next several years. This is a wine built for the long haul and should continue developing gracefully for two decades or more. What stands out most is its authenticity and restraint: despite Napa Valley ripeness, the wine never feels overblown. Instead, it leans into complexity, minerality, and an elegant, terroir-driven profile that becomes more expressive with air.

Production
Dominus is sourced from the historic Napanook Estate in Yountville, California, where the vineyard’s well-drained soils and warm Napa climate provide ideal conditions for Bordeaux varieties. The estate is managed with a strong focus on terroir expression, and the blend reflects careful selection of the best parcels and fruit. Harvesting is done with precision to capture optimal ripeness, and vinification is carried out in a style that emphasizes balance, purity, and minimal oak imprint, allowing the character of the vineyard to lead the wine.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for premium beef, lamb, venison, roasted mushrooms, and dishes with deep savory character such as braised short ribs or duck. Serve at around 16–18°C for the best expression of aroma and texture. Decanting is strongly recommended; a few hours of aeration will help the wine open up, and extended decanting can reveal even greater complexity.

Dominus was established by Christian Moueix, one of Bordeaux’s most respected winemakers and the force behind some of Pomerol’s most legendary estates, including Petrus. At Dominus, he brought that old-world sensibility to Napa Valley, creating a wine that quickly became a benchmark for California Cabernet blends. The estate is now firmly regarded as one of the region’s great names, celebrated for wines of power, longevity, and exceptional sense of place.
