Dominus 2018

Dominus 2018 is a striking Napa Valley red that captures the estate’s signature blend of power, precision, and restraint. Built on Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it reflects one of California’s most iconic Bordeaux-style expressions, a wine long admired for its depth, ageworthiness, and unmistakable sense of place.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 vintage shows a very deep garnet-purple color that hints at its concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with blackcurrant cordial, ripe black plums, boysenberries, and Black Forest cake, then unfolding into violets, star anise, cracked black pepper, raspberry leaves, pencil lead, and a subtle garrigue character. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with densely packed black fruit, superb freshness, and impressive tension. The tannins are plush and ripe, yet the wine feels tightly wound and reserved, suggesting significant potential for further development. This is a vintage built for patience and should age beautifully for 30 years or more.

Production
Dominus 2018 comes from carefully selected parcels in Napa Valley’s Oakville district, a terroir especially well suited to Bordeaux varieties. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted both in the vineyard and again in the cellar after destemming, ensuring only the best fruit makes it into the final blend. Fermentation includes around 18 days of skin contact, followed by 18 months of maturation in new French oak barrels before the wine is clarified with fresh egg whites and bottled.

Food & Serving
This is a wine that calls for equally refined food, such as roast lamb, grilled ribeye, dry-aged beef, duck breast, or dishes with mushrooms and truffle. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for several hours if drinking young, as it will benefit from air to reveal its full aromatic complexity.
