Domäne Serrig, Riesling Grosse Lage Vogelsang, 2021

Domäne Serrig Vogelsang 2021 is a dry Riesling of remarkable precision, drawn from the estate’s steep south-southwest-facing slate slopes in the Saar, where the cool microclimate allows the fruit to ripen slowly and retain both tension and energy. As a Grosse Lage wine, it comes from one of Germany’s top vineyard designations, highlighting exceptional terroir and outstanding grape quality.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright, lively profile with aromas of flint, wet stone, and delicate white fruit. On the palate, it is linear and focused, with a firm, almost saline mineral edge that evokes sea breeze and crushed slate, yet it remains elegant and finely balanced. The finish is pure, persistent, and exceptionally long, suggesting excellent aging potential.

Production
The grapes were hand-harvested in mid-October to ensure full ripeness and perfect health, then gently pressed before spending several hours on skin contact. Fermentation took place spontaneously and cool, followed by 10 months of lees aging in large 3,000-liter Stockinger oak casks and an additional two years of bottle maturation. The result is a vinification style that emphasizes structure, depth, and a clear sense of place.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for refined fish dishes, oysters, scallops, langoustines, and lighter plates with white meat and herbs. It also works beautifully with delicately spiced Asian cuisine or classic dishes finished with butter and citrus. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help the wine open up in its youth.
