Description

Domaine Truchetet Bourgogne Rouge Les Chaillots Vieilles Vignes 2023 is a characterful red Burgundy that showcases the finesse and purity of Pinot Noir from old vines. Drawn from “Les Chaillots” – a site known for its stony soils – this cuvée delivers a wine that is both charming in its youth and quietly serious in its structure. It offers an authentic snapshot of Burgundy in a fresh, vibrant vintage, crafted by a small estate that focuses on precision and respect for the land.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Bourgogne Rouge shows a bright, translucent ruby hue, with the kind of clarity and luminosity you expect from fine Pinot Noir. The nose is expressive and inviting, offering aromas of red cherries, wild strawberries and raspberry, lifted by floral notes of rose and violet, and a subtle hint of crushed stone and gentle spice. On the palate, Les Chaillots Vieilles Vignes is supple and silky, with juicy red fruit at its core and a fine, chalky tannin structure that brings both grip and elegance. Fresh acidity keeps everything lively and focused, while delicate notes of red currant, pomegranate and a touch of savory earth unfold with air. The 2023 vintage is approachable now for its bright, primary fruit, yet the old-vine concentration and balanced structure suggest it will develop additional complexity over the next 5–7 years.

Production
Les Chaillots is typically characterized by its stony, well-drained soils – often with a mix of limestone and clay – which naturally limit yields and encourage deep root systems in these old Pinot Noir vines. At Domaine Truchetet, vineyard work tends to emphasize careful canopy management and hand harvesting at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and precision. In the cellar, the fruit is generally handled gently: destemming or partial whole-cluster fermentation depending on the year, followed by a cool maceration and a native-yeast fermentation in small vats. Aging typically takes place in Burgundy barrels, with a restrained use of new oak, to frame rather than dominate the wine’s delicate fruit and mineral expression.

Food & Serving
This Bourgogne Rouge is wonderfully versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast, pork tenderloin, charcuterie, grilled salmon, mushroom risottos and soft to semi-firm cheeses such as Brie, Reblochon or Tomme. Serve at around 14–16°C to highlight its perfume and finesse; a light chill works well in warmer weather. A short decant of 20–30 minutes, or simply opening the bottle a little before serving, helps the wine open up and reveal its full aromatic complexity.

Producer
Domaine Truchetet is a family-run estate in Burgundy, rooted in the region’s long tradition of small, quality-focused domaines that farm and vinify their own vines. Over recent years, the domaine has become known for its meticulous work in the vineyard, its growing emphasis on environmentally responsible practices and its sensitive, low-intervention approach in the cellar. While not among the largest or most famous names in the region, Domaine Truchetet has attracted increasing attention from Burgundy lovers for its precise, terroir-driven wines that faithfully reflect their origins, from regional Bourgogne tiers up through more prestigious sites.
