Description
Domaine Trapet Père et Fils Chambertin Grand Cru 1999 is a beautiful expression of one of Burgundy’s most revered vineyards, often called the king of the Grand Crus. Sourced from historic old vines in Chambertin, including parcels planted as far back as 1919, it combines remarkable depth with the finesse and authority that define great Pinot Noir from this legendary site.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows the graceful maturity expected from a top Burgundy at this age. The nose opens with dark cherry, ripe plum, violets, forest floor, iron-rich minerality, and subtle spice, gradually unfolding into dried flowers, undergrowth, and a distinctive earthy, umami-like complexity.
The palate is silky yet firmly structured, with still-vibrant fruit wrapped around beautifully resolved tannins. The finish is long, elegant, and layered, leaving impressions of red and black berries, mineral tones, and fine spice. Now drinking at an excellent stage, it still has the composure and balance to continue evolving gracefully for a number of years.
Production
This wine comes from Domaine Trapet’s historic parcels in Chambertin, one of the most prized terroirs in all of Burgundy. The old vines, some nearly a century old, contribute naturally low yields and exceptional concentration, while the limestone and clay soils of the site lend power, precision, and unmistakable mineral character. The grapes are typically harvested with great attention to ripeness and selection, then vinified in a traditional Burgundy style to preserve the purity, structure, and sense of place that define this Grand Cru.
Food & Serving
Pair this mature Chambertin with refined dishes such as roasted duck, pigeon, beef fillet, game birds, mushroom risotto, or truffle-based preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes to allow the wine’s aromas to fully open, especially if it has been resting undisturbed for some time.
